Just up the road

 

호주에서 길을 물어보거나 할때 "Just up the road"란 말을 들어 보셨는지 모르겠다.

오늘은 이표현에 대해서 알아보자.

"Just up the road"는 그대로 해석하자면 "길 바로 위쪽에" 정도로 해석되는데, 실제로는 "바로 근처야", "조금만 가면 돼" 정도로 해석될 수가 있겠다.  실제로 5-10분 아니 그 이상되는 거리도 just up the road라고 하는 경우가 많다. 거의 모든 일상대화에서 밥먹듯이 사용되는 표현이라고 생각하면 된다. 

 

북미 같은경우는  "it's just nearby (close by)" 나 "it's just around the corner" 같은 표현을 주로 쓴다.

(주유소가 어디야, 조금만 가면 돼.)

 

Is there a bottle shop around here?

Yeah mate, just up the road, past the shop. 

(주류점 어디있어? 저기 가게지나서 바로야.)

 

There's a small cafe that's just opened up the road, and the coffee there is awesome.

(근처에 새로 오픈한 카페 있는데, 커피가 끝내줘.)

 

How far is the post office from here?
Just up the road. You can walk there in 5 minutes. 
(우체국이 얼마나 멀어? 얼마 안 멀어 5분 정도 걸어가면 돼.)
